Mark’s Blog

Had fun in Minnesota.  (Pictures here.)  Anne and I spent time each day in the Mall of America.  Two of my favorite restaurants are there (Tony Roma’s and Twin City Grill - with the world’s best fries) and I ate so much, I needed to buy fat pants.

Actually, I needed fat pants before I went to MN.  Ever since I had to stop working out, I’ve been putting on weight at an alarming weight.  I’ve put on 16lbs in 8 weeks and have hit new all-time highs each of the last four weeks.  It’s horrible.  I’ll diet for one or two days, but can’t seem to stay on it.  My willpower seems to be gone and it’s quite frustrating.

I’m hoping that my fat pants are temporary and not just a step to even fatter pants.  I keep telling myself not to get too upset with the idea that once my back gets better, I’ll get to workout again and the weight will come off.

So, how is the back doing?  Absolutely no better.  Spinal injection - nothing.  OxyCodone - nothing.  Five weeks of physical therapy - nothing.  Vitamin supplements - nothing.  Which explains the picture of me in the wheelchair at the Museum of Science in MN.

So things are not looking good.  Both my spinal doctor and my physical therapist - who two months ago said surgery would be the worst thing I could do - have told me that I might want to consider surgery.  Brilliant.

Anyway, despite that I still have some hope.  Maybe next entry I’ll have some progress to report.

As for my next couple of weeks, I’ll be doing some traveling.  I got a couple of business trips to Massachusetts July 19-22 and then to Seattle July 28-31.  Then it’s off to Dallas to witness and celebrate T. Flowers wedding.

So hopefully good times ahead.
Relaxing on the beach at Lake Calhoun.  Didn’t get on or in the water, but got to sit on the beach.
