Here’s how I spent my Wednesday at the San Jose timeshare:
After my two work meetings, I managed to catch my first Sox game of the year. Big Papi and V-Tek went deep as the Sox won 5-0. I was sandwich’d between A’s fans, but had ten Sox fans who had my back. Seriously, they were sitting right behind me and kept offering me food and drink. Very cool displaced Beantowners who now live in SF. We exchanged emails and may hook up when the Sox return at the end of May.
After the game, Rook and I went to Japan town where he ate “Sushi Combo A.” (Hey, that’s a pretty good name for a band - though not as good as “Mommy and the poop bag.”)
Speaking of bands, Bon Jovi’s “Lost Highway” tour was in San Jose that night and the more Rook and I talked about his songs, the more I realized that there weren’t may bands (other than the Eagles) I would probably enjoy as much to see in concert these days, so Rook and I went and listened to such classics as “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “Bad Medicine,” “It’s My Life,” “Born to be my Baby” and “You Give Love a Bad Name.” The sound quality wasn’t the greatest. I couldn’t make out the lyrics on any of the songs I didn’t already know - but I knew the majority and the video display was very cool. Chris Daughtry joined the band for “Blaze of Glory” and he was really good. And yes, someone nearby was sparkin’ a doobie. Ah, some things about concerts never change. Well, except how at any one time you could always see hundreds of cell phones as people tried to take pictures. Not sure how well that worked but I guarantee it was better than the “fireball” that showed up on Rook’s iPhone.
The night ended with me playing the Wii for the first time. Rook and I played tennis, baseball, boxing and golf. And yes, my shoulder was a little sore the next day! Yes, I know you don’t have to take full swings when playing tennis, but it’s so much more fun when you do!
Great times.
Now I need to recover from the trip.
