2:33pm:  BOS 4, CLE 4.  Definitely liking Pierce’s aggressiveness.  Taking it all the way on the break.  But unable to score over Wally?  When did he become a defensive stopper?!?  We need to get Garnett involved.

2:37pm:  BOS 12, CLE 4.  Why are we continually stuck with Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson?  They suck.  Other than Van Gundy’s turn as a bus driver on the Celtics Hoosier-watching commercial, he has been, at best, a resource of zero value.

3:00pm:  BOS 16, CLE 12.  I hate Varejao.  He’s such a spas-case on offense and flopper on defense.  One of the funniest plays of last year’s playoffs was on the last possession of one of the Cavs playoff games when James was double teamed so he dumped the ball to Varejao and then stepped back, obviously expecting the pass back so he could make his move. Instead, Varejao did a crazy, out of control spin move and then threw up a shot that didn’t have a prayer of going in.  Game over.   Celtics need to give him the wide open jump shot every time down.  He won’t refuse and he’ll take the Cavs rght out of the game.

3:12pm:  BOS 24, CLE 17.  Announcers just said Bird and Duncan lead the NBA in playoff games where they led their team in scoring, rebounding and assists at 21 times.  That’s amazing.  Ok, more Bird references, please.

3:27pm.  BOS 35, CLE 23.  ABC just advertised the NBA finals starts June 5th.  Argh.  I leave for China June 4th and I’m gone through the 13th!  I think I am missing the entire finals!  Great.  So what is the point of this game 7?  It’s like getting to watch the first third of Raiders of the Lost Ark and then having to go to bed right after Marion’s bar burns down in Nepal!  Who’s my GD partner?

3:53pm.  BOS 50, CLE 40.  Up 10 at halftime.  Not good enough.  Feeling good about the half -- but we aren’t up by as many as we should be.  Need Garnett in the 2nd half.

4:15pm  BOS 52, CLE 49.  What happened to Boston’s defense?  Rebounding?  Energy?  Where’s Pierce’s aggressiveness?  The game is still in Boston, isn’t it?   I haven’t play this dispassionate since a certain someone was playing defense with their hands in their pockets in a Marlboro Boys club pre-season scrimmage!  Oh no wait, that wasn’t dispassionate -- that was COOL!   This isn’t.

4:33pm.  BOS 67, CLE 59.  Boston has withstood the Cleveland run.  Chance to push the score.  4-2 break.  Ray Allen wide open from 3.  Could take two dribbles closer to the basket and still be uncontested.  He bricks a three.  At the other end, Joe Smith steps out and hits an 18 footer.  Instead of a 10 point lead it’s 6.  Never seen a “star” have such a sucky playoff series.  Well, in basketball.  I mean, there is A-Rod.

5:12pm.  BOS 87, CLE 84.  Three minutes left and Ray Allen is on the bench.  Sad thing is, there isn’t anyone on the court that I would want to take out for Ray Allen.  Wow.

5:15pm  BOS 91, CLE 88.  PJ Brown!  Wow.  I can’t even believe this guy is still in the league.  He’s got stones like Cassell to take that jump shot.

5:30pm  BOS 97, CLE 92.  Finally.  It’s over.  That was far too close for comfort.  Back to back game 7’s against what I would consider inferior teams.  Boston has to play much better than this against Detroit.  Hopefully Ray can remember how to shoot a jump shot in the next couple of days.  I’d feel much more confident with him on the court instead of Eddie House.

Celtics Game 7 Running Commentary
