Great news, everyone! We have a new member of our family! Please join us in welcoming Zoe. She’s a dachshund-terrier mix and is less than two years old. Much like Kaylee, Anne has rescued her from a bad situation.
Zoe was living in the house on the corner of Meadway and Richmond, diagonally opposite our house. Her parents had her since she was a puppy, but had kept her as an outdoor dog ever since they had a baby about 15 months ago. They left her in the yard throughout the year - through the insanely hot summer and the torrential downpours. They admittedly neglected her and were bad parents. (Understatement.)
Things get worse. Recently the couple has split up and moved out. But neither could take the dog, so they just left her in their backyard and came back every few days to give her food. So poor Zoe was stuck in their back yard with zero company and interaction.
When Anne found out about this last week, she instantly took Zoe in. We were thinking about trying to find Kaylee a friend, and this seemed to be a good opportunity. Anne took her to the vet where they found out Zoe had a parasite, but was in remarkably good shape for an outdoor dog. She had to get several shots and was quite skittish at first. It was rough the first few days since Kaylee’s chihuahua side doesn’t get along with other dogs, but they seem to be getting along fairly well and we’re hopeful that things will work out.
We ran into the mother yesterday and asked her for Zoe’s toys or beds or whatever they might have had for her....and they had nothing! Not a single toy. Or blanket. Or bed. Can you imagine!?! They just kept her outside on their patio.
Well, I’m very thankful that my wife rescued Zoe from that bad situation and I am quite hopeful that she and Kaylee will be friends. Anne and I have already grown very attached to her and we’re looking forward to our two little girls playing together.
