This Problem Solving Groupwork activity allows students to explore the philosophies of government held by nine prominent thinkers. Students break into group of four to study the ideas and beliefs of one of nine historical figures-Abigail Adams, Benjamin Banneker, Hiawatha, Thomas Hobbes, King Louis XIV, William Laud, John Locke, Baron de Montesquieu, and Mary Wollstonecraft--and then discuss those philosophies during a "Meet the Press" interview panel. Student panelists wear masks of these figures and represent their ideas on government, while student "reporters" ask probing questions to encourage the panelists to argue their ideas.
