today’s front pages

It’s a quiet day in most of the country, with the exception of California, where the state supreme court struck down a law banning same-sex marriage. Good stuff from the Mercury News — covering all the bases on the big story, plus giving the Icahn v. Yahoo headline a good ride and making a nice weather skybar.
The Chronicle steps up, too, but this headline makes me think of the last time San Francisco “made history” on this issue — and look how far that got them.
In New Orleans, the Hornets are heading into Game 7. I like the typography on the splash — it’s got a lot of verve.
The V-P pulls another splash out of its graduation cap. (Do you think they call it a splash? Centerpiece? Or just a plain, old lead — sorry, lede?) Whatever. They’re always good at making something out of nothing. I also like the airy skybar.
And finally ... I’m not wild about the Pi Press’ new typography, but I do like how they handled the standalone photo. That’s what caught my eye. But what’s really special is the ID theft headline, in the lower left. Nice.
