Da bears ...
Thursday, May 15, 2008
None of us can resist a cute animal photo, and polar bears are nothing if not photogenic. But I would hardly call this a victory for the poor polar bears. The Tribune had it right with the asterisk ... they’re protected, but not from much.
Another bear treatment I like is from the Seattle PI, where they added a neat graphic about the shrinking polar ice cap.
In Ohio, the attorney general finally quit, without getting any kind of deal. (Some variation of the “Dann done” headline showed up all over Ohio this morning.) I’m sorry I can’t share the Plain-Dealer today, but I couldn’t find their front page online. If anyone else sees it, send it my way.
There were several new takes on food inflation today. This one is my favorite, breaking down the ingredients for breakfast, lunch and dinner. (Hated the headline: Shrinking dinner dollar. What? Lunch and breakfast dollars aren’t shrinking? Bah. Just making it “dining dollar” would have fixed that.)
I throw this in because I, for one, would welcome a 100-degree day. Stupid cold, damp spring ...
And finally ... This is just crazy. Okay, so a gas station is doing an annual publicity stunt, selling gas for $1 a gallon. That’ll save you, what? $2.75 a gallon, or about $40 if you put 15 gallons in your tank. Okay, I wouldn’t turn down $40, but would I wait in line for eight hours for it? In the middle of the night? No! Who are these people? (Let’s not even talk about the guy in the sheik outfit.)
