Marine Corps Ball

We had the honor of being invited to the Marine Corps Birthday Ball commemorating the 233rd year of existence.  Did you know the Marines were established in 1775 - one year before the declaration of independence?!
The event came at the end of a particularly stressful week and even the day of the ball was so miserable that I wondered how we’ll manage to put on faces that are at least somewhat presentable.  We got into the taxi and rode quietly, each one looking out the window.  But we did manage to hold hands:).  I wonder if you were praying for us at that moment, because at the end of the short ride we stepped out of the taxi, entered through the revolving door at the Intercontinental Hotel, walked up a short hallway, put our coats into the cloak room and all was well.  We were greeted by the Marine Security Detachment commander, the US ambassador, Mr. Graber, and the rest of the marines who were all lined up to greet the guests.  And we did not even have to pretend we are happy to be there!
We had a great time learning about the Marine Corps history and traditions (like cutting the cake with a sword!), interacting with friends and dancing.  First time in 17 years of marriage that we went to a ball together!  What does that say about us?  I am not sure, but I have to tell you that Elaine was absolutely stunning - the most beautiful lady at the ball!
