The past month was a whirlwind of events and tasks. Most of it somehow connected with finishing the school year - both for our kids and for the English Across the Subjects program - or with the work that has started at Zelivka. One of the more time consuming projects was a survey of how many people (and what kind of people) naturally visit the park where our farm is located. This information will be used as part of a grant proposal for getting some money for the development of one of the buildings (the plan is to create a retreat facility that would be run as a social enterprise - in essence a regular business that employs people with mental disabilities - and we’d like to get some start-up money for this from the EU).
So our family and several of our friends and colleagues and even our neighbor spent the past four weekends (from 8am to 8pm) sitting at a table making little lines for every person that passed by the farm. Most days we logged anywhere from 600 to 1200 lines in the survey form. It wasn’t the hardest job, but it did take long hours to complete. That is also why I am sitting in front of the computer now trying to catch up on all the important events of the past month.
