Today we took another small but tangible step forward at Zelivka. After a prolonged negotiation I signed yet another piece of paper and was handed a bunch of keys to our new place! So we are finally officially in!!!
You may wonder what kind of a place needs this many keys? Well, it is a sizable property with four buildings and each of them has multiple entrances. And it the Czech Republic people lock everything (sometimes even trash cans - not for fear that someone may steal the trash, but so that no one can add more to it).
The next step is helping a friend move this Saturday. And then cleaning the mess we made the first day there - we cut down tons of overgrown bushes. It was a memorable work day as well, because on this our very first time doing anything there we were visited by the police who ordered us to put out the fire we made to burn the branches. We even made an announcement to the fire department about it beforehand, but there are additional restrictions and permits one has to get to cut things down and burn them. We are still learning all these laws and regulations and it looks like we’ll never run out of things to learn.
