Urban Voice | Perspectives on Milwaukee School Violence
While enrollment drops in the Milwaukee School District, violence climbs. The number of suspensions for battery, for gang activity and for fighting all jumped between the 2005 - 2006 and 2006 - 2007 school years. Police statistics on calls for help from schools seems so incredibly high that others question their accuracy – 11,142 in the last 180 days students are in school. This special report looks into the violence, asking key officials to discuss causes and solutions.
