AA1TJ_030808_42UW

A big day for Mike and me as I was able to copy his 42uW signal, at times a Q-5! Occasional QRN hurt the ears, otherwise it was ‘normal’ conditions for mid-morning QRPpp. Lucky we started this

First edit/upload a Garage Band clip. ~4 min. MP-4 of live (not beacon) signal, ~ 7:30AM today. Noise ~S-1, QSB avg.  My sig = 5/7/9.  Mike peaks to 4/2/9. Odd: “live” sigs weaker than beacon.

Heard Mike’s beacon come up after our “live” session. Grabbed ~ 2 min. of it. It varies from e.s.p. levels to what I call a level 4/2/9 signal on peaks.

AA1TJ_2/9/08b

My first  “podcast” (MP-4)  with Mike, AA1TJ/QRPpp featured. Grabbed a couple of minutes of his 3.568 mHz, 100 uW signal using a micro-cassette, downloaded to a laptop.

2/9/08: My first attempt at podcasting. A brief recording of Mike Rainey’s (AA1TJ) 100uW signal on 3.568mHz, in VT at a distance of 106 miles. That’s over one million miles per watt.
We’ll keep going, hoping eventually to reach 3 million miles per watt!

Equipment used:
Mike: all home brew, all tunnel diode RX/TX!.
Seab: IC 706 II-G @ 4W. Antenna: 176’ dipole @ 55’. Recorded on a micro-cassette, thru an iMIC to Garage Band on my Mac.  Copied / saved it as a “medium” compressed iPod file and uploaded it to this page. It’s a 12+ mb file, so pretty big to send around by e-mail!

2/15/08: Now going direct from ‘706 RX > iMic > laptop. Mike running 575uW on zener diode TX. Unexplained: beacon is stronger than “live” signal.
