Amongst other things my cousin Marika Hughes, granddaughter of Emmanuel Feuermann (she a ‘cellist / singer touring musician in her own right), told some stories to audience at the competition which some of the organisers of the competition & audience may not have realised; that her grandfather liked & drove fast cars; that he was colour blind and had to ask passengers to tell him when traffic lights changed; that he smoked a lot; and that when his girlfriend (who at that time had not yet become his wife), before being allowed to go to her hotel from the boat (on which she had arrived to join him on tour on this her first visit to New York), was taken to a jazz night club, probably The Cotton Club to hear (?)
