Youth Theatre Company

From 15 years upwards workshops meet on Wednesday evening from 6.30pm - 8.30pm.

Upstage is not just about drama, it is about communicating, team building and developing the confidence to be who you want to be!

These sessions develop the power of expression and communication, but also offer opportunities to become involved in all aspects of theatre production, including direction, script writing, design and technical elements.

Primarily performance oriented, workshops are tailored to meet the needs of an older age group, working as a whole and in individual & small group situations, and leadership is encouraged from within the team.

The company produce at least one major performance each year, & play a major role in decision making and planning. These include pieces of Drama written and devised by the group such as ‘Absent Friends’ in 2004, & ‘Felix Has Gone to

New Zealand’ in 2007. The group wrote & performed their own adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘Taming of the Shrew’ in 2005. They achieved major success in 2008 with their adaptation of George Orwell’s classic ‘1984’, for which members of the group succeeded in applying for their own funding through WCC’s FLOSS scheme. Their latest performance has been working with members of ‘Red Ditch Theatre Company’, in a promenade adaptation of Charles Dicken’s ‘A Christmas Carol’, performed at Forge Mill Needle Museum at the beginning of December.

Young Upstage

Indigo is planning some short term, ‘stand alone’ projects during 2009, to work with younger members who are interested in developing their dramatic, communication & team building skills in a theatrical environment. Look out for details.

Workshops are open to all, there are no auditions, or previous experience necessary. It is important that you are aware that drama relies on teamwork - and so all we ask for in return is the energy, enthusiasm and commitment that comes naturally from all those who participate in our workshops!
