Hackney RFC Vs Southagate RFC

HACKNEY RFC scored just about the biggest win in their history when they ran 14 tries past Herts-Middlesex Div 3 whipping boys Southgate in the Griffins' final game of 2007.

Southgate have lost all their games this season and by massive margins, but it was the first time that Hackney have had opportunity to meet them. In the reverse fixture that should have been earlier in the season at Spring Hill - the Enfield area side failed to turn up!

The Griffins began in devastating style and scored almost from the first whistle when Uzo Uyanwune went in and from that point it was going to be a long afternoon for the north Londoners.

Jon Tully scored the second under the posts as Hackney's forwards dominated and then heavyweight South African prop Heinrich Teitge crashed over for the third.

The scoring continued unabated as Tully scored a second and Owen Addison, Shaun Collins and Jeff Moore all got in on the scoring act before half-time, when the match was long over as a contest.

The second-half followed in similar vein. There was a debut try for flanker Charlie Davies, while Matt Spencer bagged a second-half hat-trick.

Tully was another to finish with a trio of tries, Uyanwune had two and there was even time for skipper Matt Clemens-Lary to scuttle over for his second score of the season.

The win lifts Hackney to joint second in the table and in a useful position to make a real tilt for promotion in the second part of the season.

Hackney Griffins: Teitge, Holgate, Clemens-Lary, Cartwright, Addison, Davies (C), Spencer, Tully, Fanning, Moore, Uyanwune, Collins, Hall, Davies (J), Callanan.
