The Chatham Media Archive- About Us
The Chatham Media Archive is run by volunteers dedicated to the recovery and restoration of special media having to do with Cape Cod. We specifically research films, books, photographs, and artworks, as opposed to written documents and texts.
These media items are technically and financially difficult to recover and digitize and so tend to remain neglected and undistributed, as opposed to more basic text documents. We’ve made it our mission to fill in the gaps and bring these items to the public in a manner that anyone can view on their computer 24 hours a day. We aim to bring the various Cape Cod libraries, institutions, historical societies, and individuals together toward this common mission.
We also actively research ‘over the bridge’ in the world-at-large to recover Cape Cod historical documents and artifcts and bring them back to their native context.
We thank the Chatham Cultural Council who so generously made a special gift through the Massachusetts Cultural Council to get this archive started. Thanks for your vote of confidence and if you’d like to help, please consider becoming a charter Annual Member by signing up at the right. We’re members of both the International Documentary Association and the New England Archivists.
