Monica Diaz, stylist and founder of New York-based personal image consultancy Style Matters, Inc., has always had a penchant for style, color and design. As a child, she would pour over her closet searching for just the right ensemble for the occasion from birthday parties to play dates. Oversized sunglasses paired with a patent leather hand bag were her most treasured accessories.  Her ardor for fashion only grew over the years, evolving into a highly successful career. 


Monica offers a powerful combination of more than 20 years of experience, having worked in nearly every sector of the fashion industry from product development to merchandising to sales and buying.  Her knowledge of the garment industry, creativity and innovative eye for juxtaposing color, texture and pattern earned her a position as a lead textile stylist with several of the nation’s top textile importers. Her textile designs were sought after by notable fashion houses including Ralph Lauren, Hart, Schaffner & Marx, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera,  J. Crew, Banana Republic and Jones New York among others.


She was later recruited by Bergdorf Goodman as a specialist for the Marc Jacobs boutique, where she led merchandising and purchasing decisions for the store’s seasonal collections. Eager to gain further hands-on experience, she later took a position with Oxford Industries, a leading menswear manufacturer for both private and brand name labels, where she focused on product design and development.


Starting her own image consultancy was a natural progression for Monica.  As the principal of Style Matters Inc., Monica is tapped by both corporate clients and individuals to share her expertise. She helps her clients discover how creating the right image can ignite invaluable changes in your self confidence, career and relationships. Her philosophy centers on helping people translate what inspires them into the wardrobe of their dreams.


“Creating a stylish wardrobe that you love does not have to be a huge expense or an overwhelming process.  I work with my clients to understand who they are, what’s important to them personally and professionally and how they want to be perceived. Success to me is helping my clients feel that their wardrobe reflects who they are on the inside and what they want to express to others on the outside, “says Monica. 


Style Matters, Inc. offers private consultations, corporate seminars and group consultations designed to help both men and women achieve their fashion goals, large or small, and create the distinct image they are looking for. 


Monica holds degrees in Textile Technology and Fashion Marketing from New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology. In addition to heading up Style Matters, Inc., Monica enjoys helping young men and women seeking careers in fashion.  She currently serves as an adjunct professor specializing in industry related courses at LIM Fashion College.
