Premiere Vision, for the uninitiated, can be a bit overwhelming. It’s fabric (Premiere Vision), Notions (Modamont), Leather (LeCuireAParis), and Yarns (Expofil). Impossibile in a day, the best strategy is make some appointments before hand, and then see what’s up. The vibrant trend displays are worth checking out. One can handle a variety of labeled samples and get an idea about the exhibitors. I lasted from 9 to 16 and only managed to meet with a few vendors. Sfate & Combier, was magnificent. Their brilliant colors and finely embellished fabrics were straight up couture. Their confections of sequins and synthetics, sheer and metallic are enough to inspire the most overworked designer. Coriex with its amazing synthetics is always one of my favorites. Their specialty is laminates. Some of their fabrics are more like a laminated paper, but there are also tons of gorgeous sheers magically pleated and permanently distorted into a variety of rumpled shapes. Tessitura Romano had an amazing rubberized taffeta with a moldable quality that was entirely new. I haven’t a clue how one might use it, but it seemed noteworthy. Junior SRL had some gorgeous lace in abstracted configurations. They looked amazing and were a real break from those hideous traditional laces that seem to look cheap even when they’re not. Santista Textil showed a beautiful tu-tone denim. If you’re fashion forward, I suggest you find a colored jean. The other big trend was coin dots, in every possible configuration; they were embroidered, woven and applied. As for color trends rusty orange-red was the standout. There were lots of electric blues, lavender orchids and off white. Acid green with yellow and coral, coral, coral were also noteworthy.
