In Paris the words "American Fashion Designer" illicit giggles and an eye roll from everyone including the homeless and kindergardeners. In fact until now Mainbocher, and James Galanos were the only two Americans that any French woman of taste would even consider purchasing. Enter Ralph Rucci. This dashingly handsome son of a Philadelphia butcher and friend to art savvy San Francisco socialite Tatiana Sorokko was the first American invited to show at Paris Fashion week since Mainbocher in the 1930s. Unfortunately geniuses are rarely acknowledged in their own countries and Mr. Rucci is no exception. Shunned by the American press for being too high brow, Mr. Rucci is nothing short of America's high point in fashion. Check out his latest collection at Neiman Marcus. His embroidered coats and modern art inspired dresses will leave you speechless. My favorite the Greek Revival number pictured above. It just screams Robsjohn Gibbings.
