Speed skating

Welcome

The main place for Short Track in the 50’s & 60’s was London at the old Richmond Ice Rink, where it used to be regularly televised.

One of the biggest names in Speed Skating in those days was Jack Dymock, and he regularly used to win the events & attaining a sort of hero status.

He had a very deceptive easy-going style whereas other skaters legs seemed to be going ten to the dozen just to keep up!

Welcome to my site

Short Track Speed Skating is essentially a British invention.

Speed Skating on the continent took place on 400m tracks, usually outdoors, and is known as Long Track Speed skating.

It’s all changed now and has become a lot more technical, with some skaters boots alone costing the best part of £1,000. These are individually fitted boots made from Kevlar & Carbon-fibre, fashioned from moulds taken of the skater’s feet.
