Information:
The equipment and system used at “M&N Designs” results in a superior video when compared to the widely available systems used by competitors for film transfer.
-
★Frame Capture- It is common practice to transfer film by recording video as it is played on a screen or through one of the many capture boxes on the market today. This is not an ideal method. Frame by frame acquisition however, allows precise editing and zero loss of image content during the transfer phase. This allows for accurate corrections to playback speed, color adjustment, and general DVD production.
-
★Synchronization- Our equipment eliminates the problem of matching camera synchronization with projector speeds. Typical home movies were recorded using fewer frames per second than the broadcast frame rate of 29.97 ( 12, 15, and 18 frames per second were commonly used with 8mm and Super 8 film cameras ). When played back using other transfer techniques, video can look choppy with inaccurate frame rate. By capturing each frame image, speed of play can be set during editing to match current TV Standards. Your video will have smoother movement at a more natural speed when recorded, and then viewed on DVD.
-
★Full Frame Images- When a film is shown on screen, a portion of the picture remains unseen. The image is cropped as it passes through the projectors gate. Our equipment is designed with an enlarged gate. This allows the viewable area of each frame to be extended to the edge of the film allowing us to capture the entire image.
-
★Editing- When edited, your DVD will have a title page and chapter markings that allow you to easily move through your film and locate specific moments. Blank, burnt through, or otherwise bad film can be removed from, or remain included in the final video based upon your request. We will be happy to work with you to produce the best transfer possible to meet your specific needs.
Although we do not repair physically damaged media or clean footage with harmful solvents, dust and light scratches are gently removed, and picture quality can usually be enhanced to compensate for color cast found with most older film. Also, because we do not subject the film to the heat of a projector bulb, we eliminate one of the most common ways your film could be damaged when run through standard projectors.
Transfers typically are completed within 30 days. Archive only typically 2 weeks. Times can fluctuate depending on current projects and amount of film provided.
