Like most players of my generation, I was drawn to the bass by listening to the likes of Stanley Clarke and Jaco Pastorius. I began studying jazz seriously at Virginia Tech in small combo classes under the direction of the late great jazz violinist, Joe Kennedy, Jr. After graduation and a 15 year hiatus, I continued my electric bass studies with bassist Anthony Wellington of the Victor Wooten Band. In 2003, I made a commitment to straight-ahead jazz and the upright bass. After studying in combos with saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk, I formed my own quartet and landed a gig with DC area vocalist, Tara Hofmann.
After two years with Tara Hofmann & Friends, I played with vocalist/pianist Sandy Asirvatham (Sandcastle) and drummer/vibraphonist Michael Fore (The Mike Fore Project). Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of playing with many fine musicians including saxophone legend Buck Hill, guitarists Tom Lagana and Kevin Mittleman, and vocalist Sharon Raquel. I’m currently playing with pianist Prakash Wright and drummer Bobby Beall in the Kash Wright Trio.
