THANK YOU

Thank you to all of you for your magnificent work on behalf of Proposition 86.   Together with our partners we fought a valiant campaign.  It was an incredibly close finish but we could not quite overcome Big Tobacco’s lies and the tens of millions they spent in misleading attack ads.  I know we all share great disappointment at the outcome of the November 7 election.  However, we should be immensely proud of our extraordinary collective effort.

This was a team effort of unprecedented magnitude.  Hundreds of volunteers helped to secure endorsements, write letters to the editor, speak at community events and meetings, mail postcards, hand out leaflets, and help make tens of thousands of phone calls on behalf of Proposition 86.

These accomplishments did not go unnoticed.  We were able to mobilize grassroots support that won recognition and praise.

I am certain that all of us have been moved by the supportive words of many, even strangers, who have reached out following the election with words of support and encouragement.  So many Californians heard our message and were given hope by our campaign.   We will not back down in our battle against the tobacco companies.

Big Tobacco managed to delay the inevitable.  But I know we will not waver in our commitment to reduce smoking and the burden of chronic disease, eliminate health disparities, and save lives.  I know that we will win.

Thank you.

THE FIGHT ISN’T OVER
