Mark Leiren-Young has written for almost every medium, in almost every genre. Mark’s comic memoir, Never Shoot a Stampede Queen -- Adventures of a Rookie Reporter, just won the 2009 Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour. The book has spent 11 weeks on the BC Bestseller’s list.
His award-winning first feature film, The Green Chain, (which he wrote, directed and produced) is currently playing in Canadian theatres and is released by Kinosmith. His award-winning short comedy film, The Green Film, (Gold Remi, WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival) is currently playing festivals around the world.
Mark was a story editor and writer for the Lifetime TV series Blood Ties. He has also written for The Collector, Psi Factor, the CBC documentary series Life and Times and a lot of very cool cartoons and kid’s shows including - ReBoot; Transformers: Beast Wars, Ace Lightning, Class of the Titans, Pucca, Stickin’ Around and YTV’s new hit series. RollBots. A lifelong comic book fan, he has also written scripts for a new hour long live action drama in development with No Equal Entertainment, based on the Marvel comic superhero, Moon Knight.
Mark toured Canada as half of the satirical duo, Local Anxiety, and wrote, produced and co-starred in the TV comedy special, Greenpieces for VTV/Green Channel/PBS - which received an EarthVision Award for, “Excellence in Environmental Programming.” Local Anxiety’s new CD - Greenpieces -- is being released this July. An award-winning journalist, Mark has written for such publications as Time Magazine, Maclean’s and The Utne Reader and he’s a regular contributor to The Georgia Straight and The Tyee.
