Above: Cell-phone video from a test-run of recently restored Ampex 300-3 three-track and 300-2 2-track recorders in a Seattle, WA, studio. Dave Dintenfass, who restored the machines, is seen at right. All went well! Below is a “rough” two-track mix from a digital source run concurrently at the session. Mics are Gefell M296 (upright bass), Sennheiser MKH50 (guitar), Gefell M296 (x2) accordion.
Update: Further below is a brief snippet that contains the live-mix done to the Ampex two-track machine, followed by the same snippet from the digital 4-track. Mics for the Ampex sample are RCA 77-DX (upright bass), Beyer M160 (guitar), Shure SM33 (accordion); on the digital, they are Gefell M296 (upright bass), Sennheiser MKH50 (guitar), Gefell M296 (x2) accordion. Still awaiting a wet mixdown from the 3-track.
