Paul is a Mac user since 1986 when he got his first Macintosh Plus at RIT.  He also is a Mac expert with all of Mac system versions from 1.1 to 10.5.  He consults people who are interested in Macintosh computers/softwares.  He has knowledge with iPhone for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people for both consumer and business use.

Are you ready for ASL...CAn you teach?

This workshop will focus on various methodologies and approaches in teaching ASL.  Teachers of ASL can no longer qualify just by being deaf or being able to sign.  ASL teachers must respect the language and incorporate culture into teaching effectively.  Teaching ASL is not only vocabulary; it should include fingerspelling, numbers, non-manual makers, various inflections, ASL grammar, cultural tidbits and so forth.  Specific examples of ASL grammar will be comprehensively explained.

Are you ready for... Change?  The experience of shock and how to address it

The aim of this presentation will showcase examples of both expected and unexpected change in a person’s life and possible reactions.  This will be a group participation presentation, encouraging audience members to discuss possible responses to a life-changing event.  Examples will be changes to a person’s life, changes in the world around them, and changes in the lives of people around them.

Are you ready for...Disciplinary Procedures?  Elizabeth “Libby” Pollard

This workshop is to encourage the members to learn about their rights in their organization, also to understand the rights of their organization and the accused.  They will also learn how to defend themselves if they are accused by an officer or a member of their organization.  They will learn how to control a meeting and to avoid disorder, as well as how to have a proper due process hearing within their organization.

Are you ready for... Health, Financial, and/or Weather Crisis?

This workshop will show you how to be prepared for such crisis by way of building a small supply of food and necessities to sustain your everyday life for up to 3 months.  Suggestions, visuals and handouts will be given on how to accomplish this.

The presenters will discuss the rights and responsibilities of Deaf consumers as they relate to support services in the community.  Various ramifications and limitations will be covered.  The presenters intend to empower Deaf consumers to exercise their rights.  Resources and various forms will be shared.

Are you ready to protect yourself against Identity ThefT?

Shannon Reese

Participants will learn how to assist victims and how to help their clients protect themselves against scams and identity theft.  The audience will learn how critical it is to protect one’s identity and will be provided tips to help clients accomplish this, thus preventing client victimization.
