I took this picture of Ansel Adams and a student at Adams’ home in Carmel, California. It was the last day of a 5-day photography workshop in Monterey, California in March of 1970. Besides Ansel Adams, the workshop instructors included Imogene Cunningham, Richard Garrod, Liliane De Cock and Henry Gilpin, all well known photographers.
The first day of the workshop was spent on the campus of Monterey Peninsula College with introductory lectures by each instructor on different approaches to black and white photography. These talks were followed by a question and answer session with the instructors. The day ended by a showing of Edward Weston prints from the permanent photography collection of the college.
