David McKay purchased 40 acres of land on Fly Creek in Washington County AR in 1836. Rachel, his widow paid taxes on this land in 1837. She is the head of the household on the 1840 census and later married Charles Dill.
Charles Dill, Rachel and and their two daughters Unicy and Paulina E are listed on the 1850 census. Ages listed show Rachel is 13 years older than Charles. Also listed are all the children of David and Rachel Mackey including Thomas age 26, Hugh age 25, George age 24, Margaret age 22, David age 18, James age 16, Andrew age 14, and Abram age 12. Hugh, however, had married Jane Rutledge in 1844 and is listed in the Newton County MO census in 1850. Thomas, George and David went to CA during the gold rush by 1850 and these children are believed to have been listed erroneously.
Thomas B Mackey married Elizabeth C Roberts in 1853.
George W Mackey married Charlotte Bance in 1853.
Andrew J Mackey married Paulina Baxter in 1855.
Abram S Mackey married Amanda Sinkler in 1862.
Hugh Mackey is listed inthe 1860 census in Washington County, living next to Charles and Rachel Dill. Also living in Washington county in 1860 are Thomas and George Mackey.
Hugh Mackey enlisted in the CSA and died in Crawford County AR in 1863/4.
Andrew and Abram Mackey also served.
Elijah Dill, father of Charles Dill came to Washington County around 1835 from White County, TN.
