Directions concerning speaking engagements
Travel
•For any trip more than 4 hours from Atlanta, air travel is preferred. Dr. Brown expects that air travel expenses will be paid by the host. Only under special circumstances will Dr. Brown agree to be reimbursed for air travel. Dr. Brown’s preferred airline is Delta (Skymiles #2310763574). He asks that every effort be made to book him on his preferred airline. This is a matter of organization and convenience for Dr. Brown, since he can check and confirm his reservations online. He prefers and aisle seat.
•Unless otherwise indicated, Dr. Brown usually rents a vehicle for his personal use during travel. Dr. Brown does not expect that his host will pick up the cost for this vehicle, nor any expenses related to it.
•If Dr. Brown does not rent a vehicle, he asks that a driver be provided to take him to the hotel and the engagement. The driver should be present upon arrival. Dr. Brown usually checks his luggage, and so the driver should be available to meet him at baggage claim.
•For any trip less than 4 hours from Atlanta, ground travel is preferred.
•Dr. Brown expects to be reimbursed for ground transportation expenses at the current rate established by Emory University, 44.5 cents per mile. If your organization by policy pays at a lower rate than Emory, please contact Dr. Brown in order to negotiate the reimbursement terms.
•Dr. Brown expects that any parking fees incurred in direct connection to the engagement be paid or reimbursed by the host.
Accommodations
•Dr. Brown asks that his host provide him with a room with a queen size bed, a smoking room is highly preferred.
•Dr. Brown prefers accommodations at a hotel rather than a motel, a place where rooms open directly to the outside. He asks that his privacy be observed at all times during his stay. Although he recognizes that he is working on behalf of his host, Dr. Brown requires that he be allowed ample time to think, reflect, and prepare.
•Dr. Brown asks that the hotel have ready internet access, preferably wireless access in his room.
The Speaking Engagement
•Unless it is a preaching engagement, Dr. Brown usually requires a projector for his laptop. He expects that the cost of the projector be paid by the host. If such an expense is not possible, please contact Dr. Brown well in advance so that he can arrange to bring his own projector.
•Dr. Brown requests that water be available when he speaks. He prefers it at room temperature.
•Dr. Brown asks that his honorarium be given immediately before or after the speaking engagement. Only under extraordinary circumstances will he wait to receive his honorarium after the event. This must be negotiated in advance. He also asks that reimbursement for travel expenses take no longer than 14 business days.
