Falling Down...
The nearly 100-year-old Fruita Bridge is in danger of falling down. Designed by noted engineer M. J. Patterson, and completed in 1907, the steel through-truss structure is one of only a few surviving examples of its type in the nation. If the old bridge is demolished or allowed to collapse, nobody benefits. If stabilized and restored, its three spans will afford safe and convenient non-motorized access across the Colorado River for generations to come. Imagine a dedicated pedestrian link from Fruita and the Colorado River Trail system to world-renowned Dinosaur Hill and the comprehensive trail networks in Colorado National Monument and the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area.
