Not very long ago I had a small accident.. Eh hem.. I dropped my gun. I would like to say it wasn’t a bad drop, but it was. It was a DOOSY!!
I dropped it from about four and a half feet up and it hit hard enough to force the slide back UNDERNEATH of the thumb safety. The thumb safety bent out and slid over top of the slide making one wicked gouge in the slide.
I was pretty upset and thought that it would be only a one time occurrence.
Boy was I wrong. A few days later my husband nocked my gun off the bed and the slide did the same thing. Now I started to wonder about the integrity of the thumb safety. trying to duplicate the problem in a controlled setting, my husband hit the muzzle of the gun with the palm of his hand and to our shock and awe, the slide moved back under the safety.
After consulting a few people who knew what they were talking about when it came to the 1911, it was decided that it was time to at least change out the thumb safety and that should be all that is necessary to fix the problem.
I ordered a new thumb safety and new slim lined grips and when they came in I took them up to a local gun smith to be fitted.
I’m happy to report that they have returned today (YEAH).
And I have lots of pictures.
Here is the CDP with the new Wilson Combat thumb safety as well as the new, black Micarta slim-lined grips.
For a closer picture.
I’m very happy with the way it looks.
I was able to take it to the range today and put some rounds through it. You can read that range report by clicking here.
