One hot summer can really take its toll on the wee garden. Upon our return this weekend, we discovered many of the plantings had not survived our absence. The neighborhood “flowersitters” were puzzled to see our sweet garden beds crumbling in the heat. Small gardens look neglected quickly.

The beauty of miniature gardening is that with one hand trowel and a quick trip to the garden center, bliss can be restored. Luckily, the shops are still full of great ground covers, hardy perennials, and flowering annuals. Here are a few of the plants we used to perk up the lazy summer look:
