IAAF Technical Rule Changes 2009/2010.

Friday, November 27th, 2009

The Board of AAI in consultation with the Technical Committee, The Competition Committee and the Juvenile Committee has agreed to adopt the new IAAF Rule changes as follows;

Rule 162.7 (No False Start Rule)

The new Rule requires that any athlete making a false start be disqualified (No False Start).

For combined events the new rule allows one false start and then the disqualification of any athlete breaking subsequently.

•The new rule to be adopted from 01/01/2010 for U16 upwards.

•For Juvenile athletes U 12 to U 15, the one false start rule to be applied and any athlete breaking subsequently will be disqualified.

•For U 9 to U 11 no change from existing rules.

In National and Regional competitions the use of blocks will be mandatory for sprints U13 – U 15, from the commencement of the 2010 Track and Field Season

Athletes and Coaches should note that the false start rule applies to all starts. This means that a 1500m athlete who does not remain still after taking up his start position after the command “on your marks” will be disqualified.

Athletes and coaches should also note that, when starting blocks are being used, both feet must be in contact with the blocks in the “on your marks” and “set” positions.

Rule 181.8 (Ties in HJ and PV)
The new Rule makes provision for letting the tie stand or for resolving it as before. It can be decided in advance not to resolve a tie or during the competition the Technical Delegate or Referee can make the decision. Athletes can decide not to jump any further in which case the tie remains.

For all AAI competitions ties in HJ and PV will be let stand.

Annalee AC win the Kiernan Cup for the best overall club in the 2012 CO CavanMasters Track & Field Championships

U12-U18 Co Cavan T&F Championships, 7th May 2012

The county championships got off to a very wet start as athletes, coaches, parents  and officials were soaked during the monday morning downpours. This didn’t put off the athletes who had made the effort to attend and there were multiple medal wining performances. Annalee had a number of outstanding athletes competing in the county championships. Aine Brady was the star performer for the club with 3 gold medals while Clodagh O’Reilly, Sean T. Murphy, Liam Canning, Aisling Brady all won two golds. The exceptionally wet day unfortunately led to a couple of event cancellations as the surface at Shercock was deemed too slippy for the high jump events and one of the long jump runups was waterlogged.

Annalee AC’s Daire O’Reilly won the U12 long jump with 3.40m and was second in the 600m after running a strong race. Lucille Carolan was the best of the U12 girls jumping  .21m and finishing 4th in the long jump followed by Ella Murphy in 7th and Kate Wilson, just 1cm behind in 8th place. Both ran well in the U12s 600m. The girls relay team placed 4th and there were insufficient Annalee athletes present to form an U12 Boys team.

Sean T. Murphy won both his sprint and 600m raceS in the U13 Boys age group. Daire Connolly was 3rd in the sprint and Ciaran O’Reilly 3rd in the 600m. Ciaran easily won the javelin competition with a throw of over 17m. Cian Brady won the U13 Hurdles finishing just ahead of his fellow Annalee club member Oisin McCorry. Oisin was also second in the U13 Boys javelin. Cian Brady was second in the Long jump with 3.52m and Daire Connolly took a further bronze with a 3.47m jump. Ciaran O’Reilly was 4th, Sean T Murphy 6th and Mark Minihane 7th in the long jump. Abbie Sexton also had a good day winning the U13 Hurdles and finishing second in the Long Jump and 80m sprint.  Claire Young won the U13 600m. Orla O’Brien and Imogen Cole were second and third in the U13 Girls javelin with throws of 10.39m and 9.53m. Alex Burke was 7th with 8.16m. The U13 Boys were unlucky in the relay with a baton drop costing them first place but they did well to recover for third place. The U13 Girls also won bronze medals in their relay.

Oisin McBreen was the club’s sole representative in the U14 category. He ran well in the hurdles finishing in second place and finished 5th in the long jump. Oisin participated in a “guest” Annalee team which did well to finish third place. There was no girls relay team in this age category.

Aine Brady won all three of her events with strong runs in the U16 100m sprint, the 80m hurdles and  jumping  an excellent 4.38m in the long jump.  Hannah McHugh won the shot putt and was second in the 800m. Caoimhe O’Reilly ran a good race to win the U15 Girls 800m and Mairead Bogue made it a 1,2,3 finish for the club in the 800m event. Irene Rose Monaghan was third in the 100m. And Mairead, Irene Rose and Caoimhe finished in 4th, 5th and 6th in the long jump. Mark Wilson, Diarmuid McCorry and Killian Connolly flew the flag for the club in the U15 Boys category with Mark finishing in 4th place in the  shot putt and Killian finishing in 6th place in the long jump. Diarmuid McCorry ran the 800m. The U15 Girls Relay team were second and the Boys team were third.

There were some good performances in the U16 Boys and Girls age category. Paul Sexton won the hurdles and was just beaten into second in the 100m sprint. Aodhagan Watters ran a composed 1500m to win and Donal Monaghan showed great strength and speed to lead all the way to the finish in the 400m. Promise Akekola won silver in the hurdles and bronze in the 100m sprint. Aodhagan Watters also had two further silver medals in the hurdles and in the 400m. Donal Monaghan was third in the shot putt.

Clodagh O’Reilly was another double gold medal winner with easy wins in the 1500m and 300m events. Jamie Gannon won the shot putt with 6.53m and Sarah Young also won gold in the long jump with 3.67m. Jamie was 4th in the long jump and Clodagh O’Reilly 4th in the shot putt. The Boys relay were strong winners of the event and the girls relay team finished in second place.

Unfortunately, the Annalee numbers fell off again in the older age groups with just two girls and three boys competing in the U17 age group. Louis Courtney was second in the 1500m and Breifne O’Brien was third in the shot putt. Cian Connolly ran in the 1500m.  Aisling Brady won the hurdles and long jump while Orla Murphy was second in both the hurdles and shot putt as well as third in the long jump. The girls relay team were second with the boys relay team also finished in second place.

Finally the U18 category had Liam Canning winning the 100m, and 400m  along with a silver in the 100m hurdles. Kian Monahan was second in the shot putt and third in the hurdles. Conor Bates was second in the 1500m race while Tadhag McGahern was third in the 400m Aoife Murphy won the U18 Girls long jump and was third in the hurdles. Lauren Sexton was second in the hurdles and in the long jump. Yvette Schutten also had two silvers in the 1500m and in the shot putt while Laura Young made up the 4th member of the relay team which finished second. The Boys U18 team also finished in the silver medal position. The remaining events will take place on May 20th along with the Children’s Games. The results leave Annalee AC a distant second in the track & field championships with just the senior events to come on May 27th.

Co Cavan Masters Track & Field Championships, May 11th, Claremont Stadium, Navan

The Master athletes from Annalee AC participated in the County Cavan Track & Field Championships on May 11th 2012 in Claremont Stadium. In a departure from tradition, the Masters competiton was held separately from the other age categories on a Friday evening and this proved to be a big success for all involved.

Lorraine O’Reilly and Fiona Connolly were the only Annalee representatives in the ladies V1 category. Both ran well in the ladies 800m with Lorraine taking up the pace from the start but she was overhauled by Innyvale’s Marie Smith and ended in the silver medal position. Fiona finished in 3rd place. In the V3 Ladies 800m, Brenda Wilson ran very strongly and was leading going into the home straight only to be overtaken by Bailieborough’s Louise Kierans. Ann Marie Connolly had a good competition debut to finish third in the V3 800m. The V1 Men’s 3000m race had Paul Connolly and Mark McNamara participating in a fastpaced 3000m and the Annalee runners finished in silver and Bronze medal places. Annalee had no participants in the V3 3000m which was won by Laragh’s Brian O’Reilly.

There were three golds for Annalee athletes in the sprints with Lorraine O’Reilly, Evelyn O’Reilly and Paul Connolly. The v3 Gold was won by Shercock athlete Pat Duffy. Annalee also took three silvers with Mary Gannon, Aiden Watters and Paul Fahy all finishing second. And Martin Sexton took Bronze in the V3 Men’s 100m. Eileen Watters just missed out on a medal in the V3 100m finishing a very close 4th.

Martin Sexton then proceeded to win the V3 Long Jump with the longest jump of the evening from clubmates Aiden Watters and Colm McBreen in second and third places. Paul Connolly won his second gold medal of the championships with a win in the V1 Men’s Long Jump. Paul Fahy was 5th. The lead changed a few times in the Ladies V3 category but Mary Gannon jumped a personal best of 3.57m to just get the win over Evelyn O’Reilly who also had a good jump of 3.50m to place second. Miriam Griffin was 4th and Brenda Wilson 5th in the V3 Long Jump. Unfortunately Lorraine O’Reilly had 3 breaks and didn’t register a jump in the V1 competition. Fiona Connolly was 4th in the V1 shot putt while the Annalee trio of Evelyn O’Reilly, Mary Gannon and Miriam Griffin took the three medal positions in the V3 Ladies Shot putt. Mark McNamara and Aiden Watters both took gold in the V1 and V3 Mens shot putt respectively. Both had good throws of over 10m. Martin Sexton and Colm McBreen finished in silver and bronze medal positions in the V3 shot putt with Bailieboro’s Jimmy O’Dowd showing good form to finish 4th. Paul Fahy was 5th in the V1 shot.

Both Men’s and Ladies 4 X 100m Relays were won by Annalee teams with the ladies also having a B team which finished in 3rd position. After all the events were completed, the final tally of points scored showed Annalee AC (68 points) with a good margin over second placed Innyvale (38 points) to win the overall Kiernan Cup on what was a very enjoyable night of competition.
