Ontario, Canada Sculptor Michael Young, Sculptor and Artist, observes that Joni Mitchell wrote in the last chorus of “Woodstock” the lyric:
We are stardust
Billion year old carbon
We are golden
Caught in the devil's bargain
And we've got to get ourselves
back to the garden
When sculpting in stone Mike is constantly aware that we are all stardust. Each particle that makes up living matter, including our bodies, was wrought in the cauldron heart of stars. Such is the nature of physics. Such is the reality of our makeup.
Quarried stone, created in the geological activity over millions and billions of years on Earth is put to the service of man. Mike collects Soapstone, marble, alabaster, slate and serpentine in the studio to be fashioned and its true beauty revealed. Mike’s aim is to Sculpt the stone for people’s pleasure.
After a career as a Professional Engineer Mike returned to the Ontario College of Art and Design to support his long time interest in creating art. Graduating with Honours in sculpture and Installation, and with courses in stone carving at Haliburton, he embarked on his second career in stone sculpting.
