Just $34 will make it possible for a villager in this famine prone area of Bangladesh to start a business. It could be a small grocery store, or a cow, or a goat, or a basket weaving business. A Social Development project of the World Bank is benefiting 12,000 villagers and helping them start small businesses as a hedge against the seasonal famines (manga) that occur in this region, about four hours drive north of Dhaka.
