The CanAm Invitational is a three distance ride. We ask that you choose the distance you are likely to ride when you register.
All three rides start and end at the West Side Rowing Club on the Buffalo waterfront. The 35 mile ride starts at 10:00 am, the 62 mile starts at 9:00 am, and the 100 mile starts at 7:00 am.
The 35 mile route is entirely within the United States. No passports necessary. It includes a combination of city streets, suburban neighborhoods, and parkland bike paths.
Supported rest stops are located to give you the opportunity to see some Buffalo landmarks up close as well as refuel for the ride.
Just a few of the highlights along the route include:
-Several examples of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture like the Darwin Martin House.
-The Albright-Knox art gallery
-The Olmsted park system
-The Buffalo Zoo
-The Niagara River waterfront
The 100 mile century route includes all of the 62 mile ride described above.
You’ll do an extra loop from the Queenston-Lewiston bridge North to the Lake Ontario shore line. This will take you on a descent of the Niagara Escarpment. A rest stop is provided at the northernmost point of the ride.
The return route breaks up the climb back to Lewiston where you re-join the 62 mile route heading south
If you are a strong rider but haven’t ridden 100 miles before, the CanAm makes a good choice for your first century. The route is mostly flat, it has rest stops provided, ride leaders, and sag wagon support. There are interesting sights along the way and good food at the end to keep you going.
The 62 mile route, also called a “metric century” because it is 100 kilometers, crosses the border into Canada. You will need a passport or see here for details on other options.
From the start in Buffalo we will immediately go into Canada over the Peace Bridge. From there the route follows the Niagara River north along the scenic Niagara Parkway.
We cross back into the States at the Queenston-Lewiston bridge and then follow the other side of the river along some streets and through beautiful and spacious park bike paths back to Buffalo.
In addition to the supported rest stops, we’ll stop to take in the view of Niagara Falls from both the Canadian and US sides.
