Well, we did it... we read together through a month of the One Minute Bible devotional. I hope you enjoyed thinking about this stuff, and I hope you’ll continue to read through the book (there’s 60 days left of readings for you). But here’s the last entry I’m going to address before the blog moves on, and it just happens to be about one of my favorite subjects, “TV, Movies and the Media.”
I love movies. I really do. While I disagree with much of what takes place in and comes out of Hollywood, there is something amazing about the telling of a story. Jesus himself was a storyteller. His stories helped many to see God in a way that they never had before.
When it comes to TV or movies and what you’re watching, a good rule of thumb is to ask your self “where is this movie taking me?” Am I an unwitting passenger in a car that is taking me down a path that I don’t want to go? Is this a story of good verses evil? Where do I fit in? Is there room for God? What is the philosophy behind the movie? Do I believe it? Is there an agenda in this movie that I’m being led by without realizing it? And can I redeem the story of this movie for the glory of God?
Movies and television are neither right nor wrong. It all depends on where they take you.
