Instructions for loading tracks into iTunes or PC-based devices

Please note:
1.This is a data CD, not an audio CD. It won’t play if you load it into a CD player. You need to ‘manipulate’ the data files for them to be put it onto your computer, so you can either play them on your computer or load them onto your hand held device, although it is possible to open them to view on your computer.
If you have a Mac, click on one of the tracks within either the ‘medium’ or ‘mobile’ folders. Quicktime will play the track on your computer screen.
If you have a PC, open the PSP folder and click on one of the .mp4 tracks and Windows Media Player (or equivalent, if you have installed other video viewing software) will open and play the track on your computer screen.
2. All files in the ‘medium’ or ‘mobile’ folders are for iPod or iPhone users (and are handled via iTunes), however if you are just wanting to use an mp3 player, a PSP or a mobile phone (not an iPhone) rather than iPod or computer to view the files, go straight to Step 4 without downloading or opening iTunes. You’ll be using the files that are in the PSP folder.
(If you have not used iTunes before, please go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and download their free software, making sure you have selected whether you want the application to run on either a Windows-based PC, or on a Mac. Start up an account but if you just want to access this disk and not buy other songs on iTunes, you do NOT have to give your credit card details. Click ‘next’ when you come to that page and your account will be started up without your card details. If you choose to buy something from iTunes later on, you will be prompted for your card details at that stage.)
Instructions
1. Load the Pocket General Psychology, Pocket Health Psychology or Pocket Sport Psychology disk into your computer and open up iTunes.
2. Save the Pocket General Psychology, Pocket Health Psychology or Pocket Sport Psychology files to iTunes as a movie (not just as music, else you’ll only get the tune, and not the movie).
If wanting to install on an iPhone or iPod:
3. Connect your hand held device (making sure it’s icon is visible in the left column of iTunes, indicating it is correctly connected) and drag the movies you would like to install (either ‘medium’ or ‘mobile’, depending on the size of your screen) onto the icon for that device, to be put in the ‘video’ folder of iTunes.
Click on the video folder of iTunes to reveal all the tracks. If you’ve got an iPod, you want the tracks listed in the ‘medium’ folder of the CD. If you’ve got an iPhone, you want the tracks listed in the ‘mobile’ folder of the CD. (If you’ve got both devices, I just used the tracks in the ‘medium’ folder - it will look fine on the iPhone too. No need to put both folders’ material into iTunes.)
I found it helpful to create a playlist of just ‘mobile’ (or a second playlist of just ‘medium’) tracks. Create the playlist you want. To get all the tracks within a folder onto a playlist from the CD, click on the top track, and holding the shift key down, click on the last track in the list, then raise your finger off the shift key. Use your mouse to drag the whole list over to where your iPod or iPhone icon is, in the left side of iTunes. If you’ve got an iPod, drag the files to the iPod’s video folder. If you’ve got an iPhone, drag the list to your device’s main name (and it will put them in the correct folder for you).
If wanting to download files to an mp3 player, a PSP or mobile phone (not an iPhone):
4. Copy the files from the PSP folder to the VIDEO folder on the memory stick for the PSP (either using a cable or a memory card reader). You just need the .mp4 files, not the .THT files.
Sorry, I don’t have an mp3 player or a PC-based mobile phone, but I’m guessing the process is much the same. Selecting the tracks you want and moving them onto the device would be what I’d suggest....
(If your disk did not contain a separate PSP folder, you may contact Michelle to obtain a new disk. Alternately, you may have software to convert the .mv4 files in the ‘medium’ folder to .mp4 files. If you can do so, it’s just the .mp4 files that go in the VIDEO folder.)
If wanting to install for viewing on your computer:
5. If you do not want to load these titles onto a hand held device, you can still view them (small or full screen):
ON A Mac
- by clicking on the title you want to view from within iTunes (once you’ve installed them in the movies section of your iTunes library). You may need to have the CD in your disk drive to view titles. Make sure you have iTunes v8.01.11 or higher, as this update allows you to see movies.
If you don’t want to download iTunes and would prefer to use Quicktime to view the .mv4 files, click on the tracks within the PSP folder.
ON A PC
Go to the PSP folder and click on a particular track, the .mv4 file will open in Windows Media Player.
If you do not have a hand held device with a screen:
6. You may be able to listen to the titles if you drag one set of titles (from the ‘mobile’ folder if you’ve got a Mac) to the ‘music’ area of iTunes (or directly to the ‘music’ area of your early model iPod).
If you’ve got a PC, you’ll need to drag the .mv4 files from the PSP folder to the music area of your mp3 player or mobile phone.
The files will be large, however (approx. 4MB each) because they are attached to the ‘movie’ that would normally be played on the screen - even if your device doesn’t have a screen.
