The sketches on the right side of each pair shown above

were done by Peter Teekamp early in his art career.

He had never seen the Gauguin sketches or made these

comparisons until age 53 when they were discovered during the research to complete the journal,

“Pass It On, Art HIStory”.

In 2003, as Teekamp was finishing his journal that included the Gauguin hidden faces discovery, coauthor Michelle Moshay purchased a book of Gauguin’s drawings and

noticed similarities to sketches done by

Teekamp early in his art career.

Teekamp had never seen the Gauguin sketches

or made these comparisons before.

These are just a few examples among dozens with similar placement found along with quotes from Gauguin referring to his theme of hiding faces.

In more than 80 titles, specifically written about Gauguin, his theme of hiding faces is never mentioned.

Gauguin had blended into the landscape.

In these carvings, there is no mistake. A partial, hidden face peers above the right in “Idol w/ Pearl” 1892 and the carving “Be in Love and you will be happy” 1889 is filled with faces.
