For the past few years, I’ve been involved with quite a few amateur video projects. I started editing about five years ago, with my first project being cut in iMovie, then advancing to Final Cut Express, then advancing again to Final Cut Pro 4. I’m mainly self-taught. Until recently, my only schooling involved reading the Final Cut manuals and posting on online discussion boards. But more importantly, I believe that this is a talent granted to me by God Himself. And it is only by His grace that I am able to serve in this capacity.
My work philosophy is simple, it’s not about the money, but rather serving Him with all that I have, for it brings not only myself joy, but it also pleases Him. And it is the desire to please Him that motivates me to do the very best that I can with whatever project I’m given. Jesus charged us to “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” That is exactly what God is allowing me to do right now. Even though I work in an isolated editing suite, the programs that I edit are fulfilling that charge by literally taking the gospel all over the world in many different languages.
While learning to edit, I’ve also had to learn DVD authoring and duplication. While my current job doesn’t require a lot of DVD work, that knowledge has come in handy. Recently, with the release of Final Cut Studio 2, Apple introduced a new program specifically for color grading and effects ... Color. I’ve been really getting my hands into this program. I really enjoy its intuitive interface and workflow. There are some projects linked below that have been finished in Color.
My current personal work station includes a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo, with Final Cut Studio 2. My workstation at work is a MacPro connected to a 56TB XSAN. I help maintain 6 Final Cut Suites here, all of which are now also networked as a Distributed Encoding Network for Compressor encoding.
I currently work for the Christian Broadcasting Network as a full time Final Cut Pro editor. There I’m a post-production editor, and mainly assemble full-length shows, although I also occasionally cut segments and news stories. I’ve edited for The 700 Club, Living the Life, Vida Dura, Canadian Edition, Turning Point, CBN News, and currently One Cubed International. These programs reach millions of people, and many lives have been changed because of them...mine included.
So what’s the point of this page? Well, I have some links below that will take you to some small movies of some segments that I’ve cut (or helped cut). Some of these segments are from my early days of editing, but as with all skills and learning curves, each piece gets better and better. The most recent segments are listed toward the bottom.
