Dolly is the second “My World” feature that I’ve cut from scratch for One Cubed.  What was really exciting about this particular project was that it was shot in HDV (1080i 50), which makes this my first HDV project.  There has been a lot of speculation here at the workplace in regards to Final Cut’s ability to edit HDV.  Dolly came at the perfect time to prove FCP’s ability to edit HDV natively.  As suspected, render times for certain effects took longer, but overall, this project edited really smooth.

Since we don’t have our HD capture cards yet, I captured the footage via FireWire, and used my second 23” display as my preview monitor.

Like with Lori’s My World, I used some effects from the Digital Film Tools 55mm collection.  Effects were not used much in this piece because this story was shot with a different style in mind, so a lot of the B-Roll footage didn’t really match up to the main story-line.  So, I decided to just let Dolly speak for herself...and I think she does a good job at that.
