Victory Garden
In a field close to our home, more than one hundred rented community gardens are being nurtured by scores of gardeners. Originally started as victory gardens during WWII, they now provide pleasure (and some frustration) and fresh produce to their caretakers. I enjoy the different personalities of these gardens, from the neat, organized, weed-free plots to those guarded by old screens and storm windows, and abundantly full of every kind of plant possible.
