A few weeks in Nice is a good start. Fresh foods of every kind are in the old town markets and shops - cheeses, produce, bread, olives, wine ... . Within an hour or so bus ride are art museums, perched villages with narrow winding stone passages, Monaco, gardens that seem to have plantings from throughout the world. On hot days, there is always the beach.
