Paincast Day 6: Acute and Chronic Pain

Acute pain is necessary for the body to protect itself from further damage. It is a symptom of something happening in the body. Chronic pain is a disease process marked by changes in the body, the spinal cord and the brain. These changes are not normal responses to injury and go beyond pain as a symptom. They result in greater pain, longer lasting pain and relentless pain. The body’s attempt to decrease the experience of pain fails.
