Paincast Day 7: Wind-up Pain

Wind-up pain occurs with both neuropathic pain and nociceptive pain. It involves bombardment of the spinal cord with chemical transmitters that cause changes in the way spinal cord nerves handle pain signals transmitted from the body. The result is that the brain perceives a greater and longer lasting pain, that cannot be brought under control by normal processes.
