Sources of funding for your summer research project

If you are arranging an independent research project with an individual professor, don’t worry about funding until after you have found a lab to work in.  Once you have found a lab, you can use the following list to find sources of funding for your summer research.

Faculty research grants:
Many faculty at Yale and other research institutions have grant support to allow them to pay you a decent salary for a 10 week period over the summer while you work in their lab, and when you agree to work for them you should inquire whether they will be able to support you in this way.  If your professor has a grant from the National Science Foundation, they should apply for an REU supplement to support you.  If your professor has funding from the National Institutes of Health, they can apply for a supplement to support you if you are a minority student or are disabled.
