Michael’s varied studio experience, including his overall design of Celestial Sounds, New York, has led composers to call on him for their personal studios. He consulted on the design and acoustics of composer Trevor Rabin’s studio, and spent two years as project manager for composer Don Davis, overseeing all technical and design elements for the studio in which Davis wrote and mixed the scores for The Matrix trilogy.

After moving to Los Angeles, Michael expanded his work to include post production audio for tv and film. As a Pro Tools music editor, Michael worked on El Cantante, Uptown Girls, Return to Me, Pinero and numerous other projects, winning him a contributing Emmy award. Michael’s work as music producer includes John Boswell’s albums for the Hearts of Space label, and the co-production of Neil Young’s Berlin, Julie Last’s Relics and Nightingale’s Lullaby for Celtic Twilight 3.

On the advice of synthesizer legend Wendy Carlos, Michael Jay learned audio engineering to further the production of his own compositions. He has gone on to engineer projects for Neil Young, Yes, Brian Eno and others, winning a “Monitor” award from the Videotape Production Association for his mix of the HBO concert special Berlin. His post-production projects range from sound design for theatre and award-winning theme parks to enhancement of audio for the FBI.
