What makes it possible for me to work in Afghanistan, is to live here...I mean really live here. There is nothing easy about this but I have been here four years as an adult now...and I walk out my door in the morning, and one-legged Uncle Karim gives me my ritual greeting-I smell the smoke of chinar tree fires and look at the Paghman mountains and I feel blessed to be here...and this carries me through long days of frustration, chaos and exhaustion.
