History
The seed for Orchard Christian Fellowship was planted in July 1999. A group of Christians began meeting Wednesdays in a South Hill home to pray for Spokane. In September, Chris Merkling, then pastor of worship at Calvary Chapel of Spokane, began teaching a weekly bible study in a rented space at Westminster Congregational Church. After prayerfully seeking the Lord’s will, Chris presented an idea to his pastor, Ken Ortize, about starting a new Bible-teaching fellowship in that area. Ken agreed, and Chris officially stepped down from his service at Calvary Chapel after eleven years on staff.
In early December 1999, Chris held an official information meeting, following the Wednesday night Bible study to present a vision for “Orchard Christian Fellowship” and a proposed doctrinal statement.
A “startup” elder board of four men was appointed for a nine month term, until formal appointments could be made. OCF held its first Sunday service on January 16th, 2000, at the Spokane Woman’s Club on the lower South Hill.

Our first all-church business meeting was held in October 2000, and the first Elders’ board was elected to three-year terms. In June of 2003, God opened the opportunity for OCF to purchase its present facility at 312 E. 3rd Avenue.
