Black Horizon Enforcement MESSAGE FROM ZOA vrijdag 1 december 2006

Everywhere I state I did SPECULUM ANIMAE’ myself.. not entirely fair, as I had the best help in the world from some pretty cool folks!

THE BLUE ANGEL
The female voice that appears now and again belongs to someone very special. It was also this voice that inspired me to create a large part of ‘SPECULUM ANIMAE’. I owe you massively. LYF.

LECID

An experienced warrior on my side. Keeping up my spirit and pushing my envelopes the hard way. I owe you pal! The basic guitardrone hammering in ‘IN MIJ / INSIDE’ is his. He has some responsibility regarding the sound of the bassguitars on the album. I bought his ESP LTD 5-string; a weapon of mass destruction.

BELPHEGOR

Satan himself plays thundering metal in quite some of the songs on SPECULUM ANIMAE. Not only pounding chords, but also ingenious layers of notes and ghostnotes. He gave the songs more power and more drive. We worked the guitarparts over a long period of time. Belphegor had a great input on bringing in what the songs needed. We had quite some brainstormsessions to get hold of the right ideas. His first contribution was with ‘GUANTANAMO BABY’. Very notable is his input on ;DE ZONNELOPER / DAYWALKER’. Here you can hear an extensive amount of layers and sounds that build up to a hypnotic total. Belphegor is a song-focussed guitarist. That is why he gets credit for additional production on SPECULUM ANIMAE. Being more of a live musician, it has been some experience for the both of us putting our focus on a studio-situation.

B-LEAF

After having left the band we gave us some time to get away from a difficult time in the aftermath of the debut release. He then solidly supported me in making SPECULUM ANIMAE. B-Leaf knows exactly what I try to do and he knows how to get me on my trail. We are considering an ambient project together..

Before the final recordings, B-Leaf had a lot of input on the songs, helping to shape them into what they are now.

TINNITUS

When we were still rehearsing, Tinnitus had massive comments on the drumtracks I programmed. Many of his ideas have influenced the way they sound on SPECULUM ANIMAE. Next to that; Tinnitus gave BLACK HORIZON a lot of awareness. It made it a lot easier to discover where I had to go. He made it easier to follow my heart.

MATT

It was nice find somebody who felt the same about just going out with a bunch of shit and record strange sounds in tunnels, under bridges or even have a train come over 4 meter above our head just to record some experimental sounds. Next to that, it was of great help to dicuss some sharp edges in the production.
